A Modern Romance!

It seems to becoming increasingly more common that the youth of today are meeting their partners online. Anthony and I are no exception! The funny thing is, I don’t think either of us were looking for the real, true, deep connection that we found with each other. I think we were looking for companionship and instead we found someone to love for the rest of our lives.

At the time that we had met, we were both in a strange spot in our lives, looking for connection but definitely not expecting love. He was working as a short haul truck driver and I was working as a rehabilitation nurse. We matched in a online application and began chatting, step one of the online romance. As we got to know each other, we realized that we had a few things in common, one being that we both worked night shift. This coincidence was only the first in many to come.

It didn’t take long until we decided to take it to the next level. Level two of online dating: the in-person date. Fortunately, with both of us working night shift, scheduling something was easy, and our food choice was a no-brainer: 8 a.m. tacos! We met up at a local taco place in Reno and of course Anthony arrived before me. I saw him first though and by the way he was chugging that first beer, I could tell he was nervous. After we introduced ourselves, we went up to the counter and ordered some tacos, chicken for me and tripas for him. Tripas? Intestines? I thought he was just trying to impress me with his weird food, and I’m sure my “WTF” face gave away that I wasn’t having it. Turns out that it really is his favorite taco filling... WTF.

Despite our differences in food choice, we actually did have a good time getting to know each other. I found that I really enjoyed listening to the stories he told and we ended up having a lot of personal interests in common. We had such a good time talking with each other that we didn’t realize the time passing, at least not until the lunch crowd starting rolling in!

At that point, we mutually decided it was best that we not stick around but I think we both individually decided that we didn’t want the experience to end. He asked me to go for a drive with him and I, being the smartest person ever, broke rule number 1 of online dating: always have a safety escape plan. So I said yes, and I will always be glad I took that chance. I didn’t realize it then, but that was the day I found my best friend.

Skip ahead two-ish years, and here we are planning our wedding! We are so happy to be sharing this important day with you!
